It is very difficult to know in advance how a foal is gong to look like when it's fully grown. Some people have a great eye for that, and these people are often highly successful.
I was told a long time ago that you can look at the foal when it's 3 days, 3 months and 3 years old to get a picture of how it will look like as an adult.
